Mr. Dougherty graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1960. He worked in the aerospace industry for 16 years, first for Pan Am, then for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. In 1969 he received the degree Master of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida, and in 1972 he became a licensed professional engineer in Florida. From 1979 to 1990 he was a principal in several MEP consulting firms, designing HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and gas distribution systems for buildings. In 1992 he became staff mechanical engineer for the Leon County (Florida) School Board, and in 1998 moved over to the same position with the Florida Department of Corrections. In 2003 he retired from the State, and now works independently as a designer of small commercial and institutional HVAC systems.

Over the course of his career as a consulting engineer and a staff engineer, Mr. Dougherty has designed HVAC for projects of all sizes, from small office buildings to 700 ton chiller plants. He designed the HVAC for numerous schools, both new and retrofit, and designed fire sprinkler systems for several State of Florida buildings in Tallahassee.
