Approved Sponsor/Provider
All of
our online courses comply with the Continuing Professional Competency
Guidelines published by National Council of Examiners for Engineering
and Surveying ()
and, therefore, should be
acceptable to all the state boards requiring mandatory continuing
education. In order for your state board to accept your PDH's,
you need to choose courses that will maintain, improve, or expand
the skills and knowledge related to your field of practice.
PDH Center (PDHonline.org/PDHcenter.com) is a Board Approved or Recognized
Sponsor/Provider of continuing education activities for Professional
Engineers in the following states:
*Attention NY Licensed PE & PLS:
PDHonline.org, Inc./PDH Center is a New York State Board Approved Continuing Education Sponsor.
There are
two categories of acceptable continuing education in the state of New
York:
-
Educational
Activities: A maximum of 18 hours may be in educational activities
for professional engineers and a maximum of 8 hours may be in educational
activities for land surveyors. Acceptable educational activities include
online courses, audio/video courses, and other structured self-study
programs that include a testing instrument and is offered by an approved
sponsor. PDH online courses in the following areas
belong to this category and are accepted by the New York State Board:
-
Technical courses in all subject areas.
- Courses related to laws and regulations governing the practice of engineering and/or land surveying in the state of New York.
- Courses related to matters of laws and ethics that contribute to the health and welfare of the public.
Note: New York State Board does not accept courses that do not directly contribute to the professional practice in the state of New York, which include:
- Courses related to office management, risk management, leadership, marketing, accounting, financial planning, insurance, real estate, and basic CAD.
- Courses addressing the laws and rules for practicing engineering and/or land surveying in states other than the New York state.
-
Live Courses: A minimum of 18 hours of continuing
education must be completed in live courses for professional engineers
and a minimum of 16 hours of continuing education must be completed
in live courses for land surveyors. All 36 hours for professional
engineers or 24 hours for land surveyors may be completed through
acceptable live courses. Acceptable live courses include webinars, seminars,
workshops, lectures, technical presentations, telecourses, teleconferences,
and other instructional methods that provide a student the opportunity
for immediate interaction with an instructor/presenter. Our webinars belong to this category and are accepted by the New York State Board as continuing education courses.
In
addition, we are a Board Approved or Recognized Sponsor/Provider of continuing education
activities for Professional Land Surveyors in the following states:
To our knowledge,
Louisiana, North Carolina, New York and Florida are the only
four states that currently pre-approve courses or providers (vendors)
in both engineering and surveying fields. Although Kentucky
has separate pre-approval programs for land surveyors' continuing education
activities, they usually accept courses pre-approved by another jurisdiction.
In other states that have mandatory Continuing Professional Competency
(CPC) requirements, it is generally the responsibility of the engineers
and surveyors to select courses that meet the state guidelines. The typical
state guidelines define a qualified course as one whose purpose and objective
are clear with a content that will "maintain, improve, or expand the skills
and knowledge of the licensee's field of practice".
Designation as an Approved Sponsor/Provider indicates recognition
by the Board of our online courses as meeting the required standards.
Professional engineers and land surveyors in Florida and New York as well
as professional land surveyors in Tennessee, Missouri, Texas, Kentucky
and New Jersey are required to take continuing education courses from
Approved Providers. In Arkansas, Louisiana and North Carolina, engineers
and surveyors are not required to take courses from Approved Sponsors,
but if they do, they are assured that their PDH credits will be accepted
by the Board.
As
an approved continuing education provider, PDH Center (PDHcenter.com/PDHonline.org)
maintains records of all online PDH activities for at least seven (7)
years. Our records include the name of the attendee who satisfactorily
completed the course, type of activity claimed, date of activity, instructor's
name, sponsoring organization, and the PDH credits earned. Copies of these
records may be requested by sending emails to
for audit verification purposes.
As an approved
continuing education provider, PDH
Center (PDHcenter.com/PDHonline.org)
submits monthly or quarterly reports, including the names and license
numbers of North Carolina PE & PLS, Florida PE & PLS, Tennessee
PLS and Texas PLS completing the PDHonline courses during that month or quarter and
the PDH credits earned, to
the respective
board of registration
for professional engineers
and surveyors.
Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas are the only four states that require
reporting from the approved continuing education providers.
Note:
Most
states requiring CPC (CPD or PDH) do not pre-approve courses or providers (vendors),
and leave the choice to the licensees.

AIA/CES Registered Provider
PDH Center is an AIA/CES Registered Provider (Provider #J681).
Continuing education credits awarded by PDH Center through PDHcenter.com/PDHonline.org
are acceptable by most
state architectural boards requiring Mandatory Continuing
Education (MCE) for re-licensure. All of our AIA/CES registered
courses comply with the guidelines and criteria established by
the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
If you are an architect and would like to receive AIA/CES Learning Units
(LUs), you must take the courses listed under the category of "AIA/CES
Registered Courses". Providing your AIA membership number when completing your profile will allow us to officially report your LUs.
Our designation by the AIA
as an AIA/CES Registered Provider indicates recognition of our online courses as meeting the required standards. Many of
our online courses also satisfy the Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW)
related training requirement mandated by the AIA and many state boards for
architects.
As an AIA/CES Registered Provider,
PDH Center maintains records of all online continuing education activities
for at least seven (7) years. Our records include the name of the attendee
who satisfactorily completed the course, the type and date of activity,
the instructor's name, the sponsoring organization, and the PDH/LU
credits earned. Copies of these records for audit verification purposes may be requested by sending
emails to .
As an
AIA/CES Registered Provider, PDH Center submits monthly reports, including
the names and AIA numbers of all AIA members completing the PDHonline
courses and the Learning Units (LU) earned, to
the Oklahoma AIA/CES
Records office. Because Learning Units are entered into a database manually by AIA staff, it will take approximately 8 weeks for your Learning Units to appear on your AIA transcript.
Note:
Almost
all states requiring MCE accept courses offered by AIA/CES Registered
Providers. Click on Details

Why didn't my credit card transaction go through?
Online credit card transaction failure could be caused by one of the following reasons:
1. You entered an incorrect Security Code on the payment screen.
The specified security code was invalid.
To resolve this issue, you need to enter the special characters shown in a gray box of the payment screen as the Security Code. This Security Code is different from CVS (Card Verification Code) - last 3 numbers from back of card (or 4 numbers in small print on an AMEX card).
2. Your credit card company may have placed a hold on your credit card transaction. In this case, you will receive the following message on the payment screen:
(2) This transaction has been declined.
To resolve this issue, you need to contact your credit card company to ask them to remove any restriction they have placed on your credit card (they can do so instantly within their systems). Then you can re-submit your transaction online.
3. The billing zip code you entered may not match with your credit card company's record. In this case, you will receive the following message on the payment screen:
(27) The transaction resulted in an AVS mismatch. The address provided does not match billing address of cardholder.
When the error message (27) above appears on the screen, please verify the billing zip code against the one on your credit card statement, close the old payment screen and re-submit the transaction again from the BUY NOW link using the correct billing zip code. If you receive your credit card statement at your home address, your billing zip code should be your home zip code. Your billing zip code must match the first 5-digits of the zip code on your credit card statement to be successfully processed by our online payment system. If you do not have the correct billing zip code, you may place your order over the phone by calling 703-478-6833.
4. Occasionally, the following error message may result after you re-submit the transaction:
(98) This transaction cannot be accepted.
If the error message (98) above appears on the payment screen, please close the payment screen (the one with a light yellow background) and re-start the payment process. If the problem persists, please call us at 703-478-6833 to place your order over the phone.
5. Occasionally, the following error message may appear when our primary payment gateway is temporarily not available:
(131) This transaction cannot be accepted at this time.
If the error message (113) above appears on the payment screen, please use PayPal (the secondary payment gateway on our website) to make your payment.

What are the definitions of PDH, LU and CEU?
A Professional Development Hour (PDH)
is defined as one contact hour of instruction, presentation or study.
The term PDH is commonly used in the engineering community. The maximum
PDH credit for a seminar that starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. with an hour
lunch is eight (8). Short breaks are permissible as long as a minimum
of 50 minutes of presentation/participation/study per hour is undertaken.
If there are no breaks, or there are breaks of less than 10 minutes per
hour, no additional time may be claimed. PDH credit cannot exceed the actual
contact clock hours. PDH credit is rounded off to the nearest half hour. No activity
under a half hour is accepted for credit. For example, a qualifying
activity of 30 to 49 minutes would be reported as 0.5 PDH and an activity
of 50 to 70 minutes would be reported as 1.0 PDH. A PDH is sometimes called
a PDU (Professional Development Unit).
The Learning Unit (LU) is used by the American
Institute of Architects' Continuing Education Systems (AIA/CES) and
is based on a 60-minute hour. Time beyond 60 minutes is recorded in quarter
hour increments (e.g., 1 hour 45 minutes = 1.75 LUs). Credit should be
stated as an AIA/CES Learning Unit hour (AIA/CES LU). In order for programs
to qualify for Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) credit, providers must
demonstrate that 75% of the content specifically addresses one or more
HSW-related issues. Programs that qualify for HSW credit are identified
as "AIA/CES Learning Unit (HSW)" or "AIA/CES LU (HSW)."
The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is
a nationally recognized and uniform unit of measure for continuing education
and training. One CEU is awarded for each 10 contact hours of instruction
or study. When a provider of CE activities fully follows the requirements
of the International Association for Continuing Education and Training
(IACET) in awarding CEUs, 10 PDHs will be credited for 1 CEU. However,
one should be aware that some organizations may advertise CEU credit without
having met the requirements of the IACET.

What kinds of activities are qualified as PDH activities?
Determination of qualifying activities must be made by the licensee in
states that do not pre-approve courses or activities. With the broad
range of opportunities to earn PDH credit, it is up to the licensee to determine
whether the activity qualifies under the Board's requirements. The following
activities are usually acceptable to the state boards:
- Completing
online courses or correspondence courses on topics related to the licensee's
professional practice (a test is required at the end of the course).
- Completing
or attending seminars or in-house training programs which relate to the
licensee's professional practice.
- Attending
technical or professional society meetings when a topic related to the
licensee's professional practice is presented as a principal part of
the program.
- Teaching
a course for the first time or expending substantial time
updating material previously taught.
- Completing
management or ethics courses which improve one's
business or profession.
For additional
information on typical qualifying and non-qualifying PDH activities, please

Why can't I find my PDH records at myfloridalicense.com?
As a Florida Board approved continuing education provider, PDHonline.org/PDHcenter.com submits a monthly PDH report to the Florida Board of Professional Engineers. However, the board currently does not have the capability to enter the PDH records into the Florida DBPR LicensEase database of myfloridalicense.com. That is why your account at myfloridalicense.com does not show PDH records for the courses you took with us. However, you may manually enter your PDH credits through myfloridalicense.com starting September, 2006. Here is a detailed step-by-step guide to self-report your PDH through Florida DBPR's website:
- Go to http://www.myfloridalicense.com.
- On the home page of myfloridalicense.com, click on "Renew a License" under User Services.
- On the next screen, choose Path 1 for the first time users or Path 2 for the return users (the following steps are for Path 2 only).
- On the Online Services Log On screen, enter User ID (a numerical number assigned to you by FL DBPR) and PIN. Then click on "Log On" button.
- The next screen shows your Account Summary. On this screen, click on the blue link "Report Continuing Education" (near the middle of the screen, below "Pay Fines").
- On the Reporting Summary screen, click on the link "Add/Update Continuing Education Course".
- On the Add/Update Continuing Education Course screen, click on the link "Search for Approved Providers". A pop-up box will open.
- On the Provider Search pop-up screen, choose "Laws and Rules" or "Areas of Practice" from the drop down menu, and enter PDH for Provider Name before clicking on the "Search" button.
- On the Provider Search pop-up screen, choose "PDHonline.org, Inc. / PDH Center"
- On the Add/Update Continuing Education Course screen, enter Continuing Education Course Name, Date of Completion and Hours, and then click on "Submit" button.
- The next CE Reporting Summary screen will show the reported course and hours. This screen also provides the editing or deleting function.
- Repeat the above Steps 6 through 11 to enter additional courses you have completed.
Once you complete the self-reporting process, you should be able to see your PDH record when you click on "View Continuing Ed" on the left menu bar of your account webpage, and you may renew your Florida PE license online using your credit card. If you prefer to renew your license by mail, you should send your renewal form along with the evidence of your PDH credits to the Florida Board of Professional Engineers.
