Joseph J. Lifrieri, P.E., P.P., P.G. Slope stability is an important engineering consideration in earth and rock-fill dams, slopes of other types of embankments, excavated slopes, and natural slopes in soil and soft rock. The purpose of this course is to teach engineers, contractors and construction managers the fundamental concepts of slope stability analysis. The course includes a review of the shear strength concepts, seepage analysis, conditions of equilibrium and slope stability analysis methods. Criteria are presented for strength tests, analysis conditions, and factors of safety. Methods for analysis of slope stability are described and are illustrated by examples in the appendixes. The course materials are based entirely on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Engineering Manual EM 1110-2-1902 Slope Stability. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of course materials. ![]() NY PE & PLS: You must choose courses that are technical in nature or related to matters of laws and ethics contributing to the health and welfare of the public.
