Yun Zhou, Ph.D., PE Earth retaining structures are used to hold back earth and maintain a difference in the elevation of the ground surface, as toe-truncated earth slopes for the sake of space saving and utilization. Comparing to a slope, the cost of a retaining wall is usually higher. Thus the need for such structure should be justified during preliminary design and the retained height should be kept as low as possible. This course, as a part of Geotechnical Engineering Series, covers basic theories, engineering evaluations, and practical approaches for design of earth retaining structures. This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials. ![]() NY PE & PLS: You must choose courses that are technical in nature or related to matters of laws and ethics contributing to the health and welfare of the public.
