Creating the Plant Pipe Code

William N. Weaver , P.E.

Piping systems are a significant portion of both initial construction costs and ongoing maintenance costs of a facility. It thus becomes critical that the Process Engineer (and others) understand and control the installation of these systems. Reliable piping systems can assist the facility in controlling energy, maintenance and environmental aspects of operations. Pipe codes are a control tool the engineer can use to help standardize piping systems.

This course provides a base from which a facility pipe code can be created. An understanding of the intent and contents of a pipe code allows the engineer to improve plant safety and to reduce maintenance and installation problems and costs.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
