Lamar Levee Foundation Options

Tom Szynakiewicz, PE

This seminar focused on levee stabilization, improvement and construction technologies for levees including Dry and Wet Soil Mixing, Jet Grouting, Drilled Shafts, Slurry Walls and Driven Piles. Each technology was described and tied into how it related to levee construction. Various options were explored for highway crossings, RR crossings, work under bridge abutments and along existing levees.

Soil improvement strengths, permeabilities, load transfer and seepage mechanisms through levees were discusses. In addition, several deep foundation options for supporting T-walls were also discussed.
